NIS America has announced that Village in the Shade has sold over 200,000 copies in Japan and passed 200,000 wishlists on Steam ahead of its October 27 international release.
The spooky farming sim from the developers of Yomawari also currently holds a “Very Positive” Steam user rating, with over 90% of reviews rated positively.
A Strong Start in Japan
Village in the Shade has already passed 200,000 copies sold following its Japanese launch.
International interest has grown alongside those sales, with more than 200,000 Steam users now wishlisting the game.
The milestone follows its North American playable debut at PAX West 2026.
PAX West Introduced Kagatsu Village to North America
Designer Yu Mizokami and Development Lead Mio Katsumata attended PAX West for the A Chat in the Shade panel, where they discussed the game’s development and creative process.
The presentation also included a live drawing focused on its hand-drawn art.
Attendees could play Village in the Shade at the NIS America booth during the event.
Farming With Something Sinister Underneath
Village in the Shade takes place in Kagatsu, a Japanese mountain village where players can grow crops, customize their home, craft items, and build relationships with residents.
Players can also take part in traditional activities including summer festivals and cherry-blossom viewing.
Kagatsu has another side, though. Residents warn the player not to speak with strangers, leave the village, or go outside after dark.
Following those rules lets players maintain a quieter life. Breaking them can reveal the secrets hidden around the village.
Limited Edition Available to Pre-Order
NIS America is offering a $89.99 Limited Edition that includes the game, a collector’s box, an art book, the original soundtrack, an acrylic block, and a metal pin set.
Village in the Shade is scheduled for its international release on October 27.
