Fellow Traveller and Origame Digital have announced that Penguin Colony will launch on October 16, 2026, for PC via Steam.
The cosmic horror game from Umurangi Generation creator Tali Faulkner will also come to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
You Are a Penguin in 1939 Antarctica
Penguin Colony takes place in Antarctica during 1939 as two rival groups arrive on the continent.
A Nazi expedition searches for evidence of an ancient power, while a Kaitiaki mission attempts to stop them and return whatever lies beneath the ice to its slumber.
Players experience the conflict from an unusual perspective: a penguin.
Different Penguins Have Different Abilities
Players can inhabit multiple penguins, each with their own abilities and limitations.
Movement options include waddling across ice, sliding down slopes, swimming beneath the water, and squeezing through spaces humans cannot reach.
Following the two expeditions gradually reveals what is happening beneath the ice and why both groups have come to Antarctica.
Insight Changes What You Can Perceive
Penguin Colony takes inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness and John Carpenter’s The Thing.
Rather than directly explaining every event, the game asks players to interpret evidence and draw their own conclusions.
Its Insight system can change what players can perceive, altering how certain information and mysteries appear.
Hidden details also encourage players to compare notes and share interpretations, with some information potentially requiring multiple playthroughs to piece together.
