Minecraft Dungeons II, The Sift Dimension, Ice Caves, and Switch 2 Release Detailed

Mojang Studios has outlined several upcoming Minecraft projects, including new Minecraft Dungeons II details, The Sift dimension for Java and Bedrock Edition, ice caves, Sound Effects Packs, and an October 27 Nintendo Switch 2 release.

Minecraft Dungeons II arrives first on September 29, 2026, while several of the larger Minecraft additions are planned for 2027.

Minecraft Dungeons II Heads Into The Sift

Minecraft Dungeons II expands its predecessor with a larger interconnected map, additional combat and customization systems, and new exploration and multiplayer options.

A major part of the sequel is The Sift, a mysterious dimension with its own environments, inhabitants, hazards, and gameplay mechanics.

The development team will also discuss how it approached creating a completely new dimension within Minecraft.

The Sift Comes to Minecraft in 2027

The Sift will not remain exclusive to Minecraft Dungeons II.

Mojang plans to add the dimension to Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027.

It will become Minecraft’s fourth dimension alongside the Overworld, Nether, and End, and the first new one added in more than 14 years.

Ice Caves Are Coming in the Next Game Drop

Minecraft’s next game drop will introduce ice caves, a rare underground extension of cold biomes.

These areas contain glowing ice crystals, which players can place vertically or horizontally and use as light sources.

A new Frozen Zombie will also appear inside the caves. Its melee attacks apply a stacking freezing effect, while ranged ice balls deal damage and knock players backward.

Regular zombies can turn into Frozen Zombies after exposure to powder snow.

Frozen Zombies drop ice balls, which players can use as weapons or as ingredients for a new potion that can freeze other players.
