Flying Squirrel Entertainment has launched a major new playtest update for its upcoming large-scale WWI shooter Over The Top: WWI, now live through May 5 on Steam. Players can join the free playtest by requesting access directly from the game’s Steam page.
Over The Top: WWI throws players into brutal 100v100 third-person multiplayer battles, as well as intense singleplayer skirmishes, set across the trenches, fields, and bombed-out towns of the First World War. The new playtest adds several significant features ahead of the game’s full release.
Here’s what’s new:
- Party & Buddy System: Squad up with friends and head into battle together.
- Dynamic Seasons & Weather: Spring, summer, fall, and winter effects—plus new snow accumulation—across every map.
- New Map – “Crossroads”: Fight through hills, wheat fields, trench forests, and a ruined town.
- New Weapons: Ross Sniper Rifle, Mannlicher 1886, and Springfield 1903 added to the arsenal.
- Customization & Audio: New British and German skins, updated lighting, sharper textures, and new music tracks.
- Performance Improvements: Frame rate boosts, AI upgrades, better visual effects, and bug fixes.
With up to 200 players or bots on a destructible battlefield, and features like trench digging, dynamic terrain, and a full map editor, Over The Top: WWI is shaping up to be a deep and chaotic WWI experience.
The playtest runs until May 5 at 10:00 AM PDT / 7:00 PM CET.
