Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Is a Prequel Set 15 Years Before Innocence

At today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment officially unveiled Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a brand-new action-adventure game and prequel set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence. The game will launch in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S (Day One with Game Pass), PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

An Action-Oriented Plague Tale Prequel

Taking place long before the story of Hugo and Amicia, Resonance puts players in the boots of Sophia, the cunning smuggler from Requiem, now a young plunderer haunted by her past. The narrative follows her as she’s hunted across Minotaur’s Island, a cursed and myth-drenched location filled with puzzles, ancient relics, and something terrifying lurking in the shadows.

In a departure from the stealth-driven gameplay of the original titles, Resonance brings a more action-focused experience—with intuitive combat, parries, and puzzle-solving using a stolen Minoan light sphere. Combat blends with myth as players switch between the Middle Ages and ancient Minoan timelines, facing challenges shaped by both eras.

A Dual Timeline, a New Curse, and the Return of the Macula

Asobo Studio describes the game as “a totally new take” on the series’ world, though the sinister Macula—the franchise’s supernatural disease—remains at the story’s core. Sophia’s journey weaves myth and medieval survival, confronting both soldiers and a growing evil buried deep within the island’s history.

“This fresh approach comes with intuitive and rewarding combats, as well as a brand-new manifestation of the Macula,” says David Dedeine, Chief Creative Officer at Asobo. “Resonance embraces themes, places, and eras that we had never explored before.”

Players will explore ruins, solve Daedalus-engineered light puzzles, evade terrifying foes, and uncover a mysterious treasure said to have driven countless to their doom. Sophia’s notebook—filled with clues left by her crew—guides players through the labyrinthine island, with echoes of the past impacting the present.

A Plague Tale Grows Larger

Resonance represents the next major chapter in Asobo and Focus Entertainment’s partnership. With Innocence and Requiem already critically acclaimed, this prequel aims to expand the lore while offering something new for returning fans and newcomers alike.

Expect new mechanics, new horrors, and a deepening of A Plague Tale’s signature emotional storytelling—this time told through a faster-paced, combat-forward lens.

Coming in 2026

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S (with Game Pass), PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. More details will be revealed in the months ahead.
