Reaper Actual Announced: Open-World Tactical Shooter with Base Raiding and Faction Warfare

Reaper Actual, the debut title from Distinct Possibility Studios, has officially been revealed—and it’s aiming to reshape how large-scale online FPS games work. Announced today during a reveal from the San Diego-based team, Reaper Actual promises an ever-evolving open world fueled by faction warfare, persistent player-built bases, and an economy entirely driven by the players themselves.

Built by a veteran team including Planetside 2’s Matt Higby, EverQuest and H1Z1 developer John Smedley, and artist Trammell Isaac, Reaper Actual is being billed as “the next level of persistent FPS combat.” Players take on the role of elite Reapers fighting for control of the island of Marova—a dynamic warzone where PvP skirmishes collide with faction-driven objectives and an unpredictable world-state.

More Than Just PvP

At its core, Reaper Actual is a fast-paced tactical FPS. But beyond that, it’s layered with the systems you’d expect from an MMO:

  • Persistent World & Narrative: Player victories change the island’s faction control in real-time. Storylines play out across both PvP and PvE missions, with interwoven objectives that have real consequences.
  • Base Building & Raiding: Construct and defend player bases that house your crafting stations, weapon production, and loot storage. These strongholds are always at risk from both AI factions and other players.
  • Crafting & Vehicles: Players can build and upgrade a wide range of gear, from night vision goggles to land, sea, and air vehicles.
  • Live Economy: A player-driven marketplace allows you to trade weapons, mods, and tech tools. You shape the supply and demand.

The team promises the world will remember your victories—and your failures. If your base is raided, you can regroup with allies and strike back for revenge. Every bullet counts, every raid is a risk, and every mission could be a setup.

Optional Web3 Functionality

While Reaper Actual will launch as a full standalone title on Steam and the Epic Games Store, a separate version of the game will incorporate blockchain via Etherlink, enabling ownership and trading of in-game assets for players interested in Web3 integrations. This functionality is entirely optional and split from the core experience.

Chief Creative Officer Matt Higby summarized the vision like this:

“Players want a world they can live in and build upon. Once faction missions interweave with PvP combat, the world becomes a swirling battleground of options for players.”
