Thai Folklore Horror Game Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit Announced for PC

Thailand-based developer WereBuff Studio has announced Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, a haunting horror adventure inspired by Little Nightmares and steeped in Southeast Asian mythology. The game is coming to PC first, with console versions planned for a later date.

Set in a distorted version of Thailand from 50 years ago, players will take on the role of Kumarn, a lost spirit child kidnapped by dark forces and separated from his loyal zebra companion, Zeb. To find his way to a new home, Kumarn must navigate twisted renditions of Thai landmarks, avoid deadly spirits from centuries-old folklore, and survive a journey through six atmospheric chapters.

Folklore Meets Modern Horror

The game reimagines iconic Thai ghosts — including Mae Nak, the Krasue, and Phi Ta Khon — through modern horror design. Players will traverse temples, graveyards, shrines, and haunted villages while piecing together a minimalist narrative told through atmosphere, visuals, and sound design rather than heavy dialogue.

Kumarn isn’t alone in this eerie spirit world. Zeb, a sacred zebra spirit, will act as a guide and protector, helping players survive encounters and navigate environmental puzzles.

Stealth, Puzzles, and Survival

Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit blends stealth-based gameplay with puzzle-solving. Players must hide, sneak, and think their way past hostile spirits while unraveling environmental challenges. Each encounter is a test of timing and observation, with danger lurking behind every corner.

Unreal Engine Horror at Gamescom 2025

Powered by Unreal Engine, Kumarn delivers moody, stylized visuals and unsettling audio design inspired by real Thai attractions. WereBuff Studio will showcase the game at Gamescom 2025 in the Thai Pavilion (Hall 3.2 B010 #8), giving attendees an early look at its eerie world.

Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit is available to wishlist on Steam now, with a release date yet to be announced.
