Capcom has unleashed a brand-new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, spotlighting both the eerie depths of its dark fantasy world and the intricate swordplay fans can expect when the game arrives in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The Horrors of Dokyo’s Laboratory
The new footage introduces players to a chilling hidden location beneath Kyoto, a secret laboratory where the enigmatic Dokyo crafts her twisted Genma creations. Among them are:
- Greater Nue – A ferocious, lightning-wielding chimera.
- Kogashira – Humans warped by parasitic Genma, leaving behind poisonous clouds of Malice.
- Chijiko – A grotesque amalgamation of human faces with long, grasping tentacles.
These grotesque abominations stand between Musashi Miyamoto and survival in the underworld.
The Way of the Blade
At the heart of Onimusha: Way of the Sword lies its exhilarating combat system, blending classic mechanics with new flourishes. Protagonist Musashi Miyamoto can harness iconic abilities such as Issen and Soul Absorption, alongside new defensive and offensive techniques:
- Deflect – Reflect attacks, including projectiles, back at enemies.
- Parry – Perfectly timed blocks stagger foes, create counter openings, and send enemies crashing into allies or terrain.
- Blazing State – Earned through successful parries, this temporary state boosts offense while fueling Oni Power for devastating attacks.
- Soul Absorption – Draw out the souls of defeated enemies to recover health, strengthen equipment, and unlock new skills.
- Issen – The series’ signature high-risk, high-reward counter that punishes enemies with deadly precision.
The trailer also teases combat variety beyond the blade, including archery and a dual-edged weapon with a whirlwind attack, suggesting Musashi’s arsenal will be more versatile than ever.
A New Chapter in Onimusha
First launched in 2001, Onimusha has long been praised for its mix of historical drama, samurai action, and supernatural horror. Way of the Sword builds upon that legacy, reintroducing signature mechanics while expanding combat depth for modern platforms.
Players can expect more gameplay reveals in the months leading up to the game’s 2026 launch.
