Double Fine Productions is known for crafting imaginative, genre-defying experiences, and with Keeper, Creative Director Lee Petty is taking players on yet another surreal journey. Revealed with fresh gameplay during Gamescom, Petty shared new insights into the studio’s latest title, which is set to launch on October 17, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and day one with Game Pass.
An Unlikely Duo of Heroes
At the heart of Keeper lies one of Double Fine’s strangest and most endearing protagonists yet: a walking, wordless lighthouse. Players embody this unusual being, using its shining beacon to interact with the world and uncover hidden paths across a mysterious island.
But you won’t be alone. Your companion is Twig, a bird partner who complements the Keeper’s abilities, helping to solve puzzles and forge connections with the island’s equally strange inhabitants. Together, they form an unlikely duo, one silent, one soaring, that gives the game its emotional core.
A Strange and Beautiful World
Drawing inspiration from the eerie fantasy of the 1980s classic The Dark Crystal, Keeper blends whimsical creature design with haunting landscapes. Players will meet the island’s bizarre inhabitants, use light to reveal secrets, and gradually piece together the mysteries binding this dreamlike world.
Petty described the game as a deeply emotional journey wrapped in surrealist fantasy, one that embraces Double Fine’s signature balance of heartfelt storytelling and eccentric creativity.
Launch Date and Platforms
Keeper arrives October 17, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and will be available day one with Game Pass.
As Petty summed up during the Gamescom showcase:
“We can’t wait for people to get in there and experience our strange, beautiful world for themselves.”
