Inverse Atelier has revealed new details about Axeras, a gritty anime-inspired tactical JRPG launching on PC, with a free prologue demo planned for November 2025 on Steam. The game aims to merge traditional turn-based military strategy with modern mechanics, layered storytelling, and a grounded anime aesthetic.
A War-Torn Story of Hard Choices
Players step into the role of Yohannes Trofyeld, a young Captain in the Evestrian Armed Forces, tasked with leading Acorns Company through the brutal Evestrian Civil War. Every choice has weight, from tactical maneuvers to moral decisions that will affect not only the battlefield but the lives of Yohannes’ soldiers.
The story’s central mystery, the rise of a secret weapon known as Axeras, threatens to change the very nature of war.
Strategy That Goes Beyond Numbers
Axeras takes inspiration from classic JRPGs and tactical games, but modernizes the formula with systems focused on combined arms combat and player-driven outcomes. Victory isn’t just about defeating enemy units, it’s about maintaining control of key Strategic Zones that influence the flow of battle.
Some of the game’s key tactical features include:
- Infantry, vehicles, and support units working together.
- Unit abilities that can change the tide of battle.
- Capture or kill mechanics that allow enemy soldiers to be taken prisoner or recruited.
- XP, rank progression, and permadeath make every soldier’s survival critical.
A Handcrafted Anime War Epic
Axeras doubles down on its anime roots with hand-drawn visuals, authentic Japanese voice acting, and an aesthetic that mixes gritty realism with stylized animation. Inverse Atelier emphasizes that all of the game’s art has been created by human artists, aiming to capture the spirit of an anime war epic.
The prologue demo in November will give players their first taste of the strategic gameplay and dramatic storytelling before the full release.
