Indie narrative label Fellow Traveller and developer jakefriend (known simply as Jake) have announced that Scrabdackle Act 1 will officially launch on Steam on December 2, 2025.
This delightfully hand-drawn, open-world adventure begins in chaos when the wizard academy is suddenly attacked, sending a hapless novice wizard tumbling through a window and into a vast, mysterious world. From there, players embark on a whimsical misadventure through a land filled with odd creatures, quirky personalities, and secrets tucked away in every corner.
Handcrafted by One Developer
Created almost entirely by Jake himself, Scrabdackle’s first act offers between 12 and 15 hours of gameplay, with two additional acts planned for future updates. Players who purchase the game at launch will receive all future acts as free updates, though the game’s price will rise with each new installment.
Explore, Discover, and Doodle Your Own Path
Scrabdackle embraces non-linear exploration, encouraging players to wander, experiment, and carve their own journey through its scribbly landscapes. Nearly every region, spell, and boss can be discovered in any order, allowing for a deeply personal adventure.
Exploration is richly rewarded: uncover hidden paths, secret spells, and quirky townsfolk with stories to share. Whether you’re puzzling your way through a crayon-drawn dungeon or chatting with a talking mushroom, Scrabdackle’s world brims with curiosity and warmth.
Charming Foes and Tough-But-Fair Bosses
Act 1 features nine larger-than-life bosses, each designed to test timing, wit, and perseverance. Every encounter feels distinct, full of personality, humor, and unique patterns to master. For those more interested in exploration and discovery, the game offers customizable difficulty settings that let everyone enjoy the story at their own pace.
Your Magical Journal Awaits
Throughout their adventure, players will fill an in-game notebook chronicling every character, creature, and landmark they encounter. The journal becomes a reflection of the journey itself, gradually filling with lore, sketches, and observations. Players can even personalize their cover with over 40 collectible stickers hidden across the world.
A Cozy Chaos of Magic and Heart
Scrabdackle blends the playful discovery of a childhood sketchbook with the depth and challenge of classic open-world adventures. Its visual style, a messy yet deliberate tapestry of doodles, colors, and linework, captures a world that feels alive, curious, and brimming with mischief.
