Koshmar: The Last Reverie has been officially revealed, with Purple Ray Studio announcing a new third-person action-adventure game in development for PC and consoles.
The newly announced title follows Violet, a teenager from a small town who can enter lucid dreams and descend into others’ nightmares. As sleeping sickness spreads and nightmare creatures begin breaking into reality, she must fight through dreamlike, terrifying worlds while protecting those caught in its path.
A dream-and-nightmare action adventure
According to Purple Ray Studio, Koshmar: The Last Reverie blends action-adventure gameplay, roguelite mechanics, and RPG elements inside a gothic-inspired world shaped by dreams, nightmares, and shifting perceptions.
Players will move between Violet’s real world and the nightmare realms tied to the sleeping sickness, with choices in both spaces affecting how she sees the world and how the world responds to her. The game’s duality system is built around Dream and Nightmare combat styles, with each approach unlocking different resources and influencing Violet’s mental state.
Duality affects combat, appearance, and the world
Purple Ray says using Dream- or Nightmare-based weapons and abilities will push Violet further toward Delusion or Madness states. Those choices will affect not only combat options and upgrades, but also her appearance and how the world is presented when she returns to reality.
The game will also include multiple endings, with player decisions shaping parts of the story and the surrounding world over time.
Combat, platforming, puzzles, and roguelite rifts
Alongside its combat systems, Koshmar: The Last Reverie will include platforming, puzzle-solving, and replayable Nightmare Rifts, which act as roguelite-style challenge areas. Purple Ray says these sections will help players strengthen or destabilize Violet’s mental state, depending on how they play.
The studio is also emphasizing handcrafted world-building and a visual style that combines gothic and steampunk influences.
