Indie Games Uprising: Break Limit

The next game out of the woodwork of the Xbox Live Indie Games Roundup is a fast paced arcade vertical shooter called Break Limit. It follows in the vein of shoot em up predecessors; Raiden, Ikaruga, R-Type but adds a twist that you won’t see coming.

Players will shoot basically everything in their path including asteroids while picking up blue orbs that add to the Break Limit meter. Activating the Break Limit makes you invisible and capable of destroying anything along your path. Yet, there’s a caveat to using the meter. It depletes quickly and if you’re unlucky enough to be powering through a walled obstacle at the time, you’re essentially out of luck. It doesn’t sound like much initially but the frenzied speed of Break Limit provides some truly crazy moments.

Occasionally, the game will shift direction left to right, vertical to horizontal to keep you on your toes and its coupled with leveling system that provides new power up rewards, weapons, and upgraded stats. The soundtrack is notable, composed by Hyperduck – you might want to check out the OST here. Hence, Break Limit is worth a try – hey it’s only two levels – and for the added shoot em up nostalgia, $1 is an affordable cost of entry.
