June is here! Soon, you’ll be inundated with hot takes about the Nintendo Switch 2. No doubt, everyone who gets one will be insufferably talking about how much they love playing games on their Nintendo Switch 2. But what about those of us not keen on Nintendo’s misgivings? Well, there’s still plenty of indies you can support.
Some of the indies you can support are even ON the Nintendo Switch. Which means you can support a horrible company AND a small indie dev. How cool is that?! We’ve got some truly off-the-wall indies for you this month. More importantly, though, I’ve got a curated list of games that I thought looked really cool.
I urge you, check these games out and give ‘em a wishlist if they seem like your jam. If this is your first indie wrap-up, we don’t only report on the PC indie scene, but the console indie scene as well. The first couple of games are PC only, but we’ve got a good spread for you. I hope you enjoy it.
QuestBoard
Platforms: PC | Release Date: June 3rd
I really dig the idea of a truly old-school style text-based RPG but the addition of portraits puts the aesthetic of QuestBoard somewhere lost in time. With the green hue of an Apple II, QuestBoard doesn’t just want to mimic the old style, it wants you to live in it.
A text adventure of your own, one that involves strategic dice rolls and branching quests. Binary Cabin, developers of QuestBoard, also promise unique minigames and “fate-driven” outcomes. QuestBoard looks like it’s really for the old heads, but don’t let that deter you from checking it out.
I’m very excited to check out QuestBoard when it releases on PC via Steam on June 3rd, 2025. No demo is available but you’re currently able to wishlist it on the Steam page if you’d like to show your interest.
Forgotlings
Platforms: PC, Consoles later | Release Date: June 12th
In May of 2018, a beautifully animated adventure game, Forgotton Anne, was released on Steam. It won a lot of hearts and minds with its hand-drawn animation style and brilliant storytelling. After its success, developer Throughline Games launched a Kickstarter in June of 2023, and Forgotlings was born.
Shifting from an interactive adventure game into an action platformer seems like it might be a big swing, but Throughline Games took to it like a bear to honey. Players will get to control Fig, one of our heroes from Forgotton Anne, in a game that seems pretty combat-heavy. Using Fig’s rapier, players can perform combos, dodge roll, and figure out platforming puzzles in a realm inhabited by objects long forgotten by their owners.
Forgotlings makes its way to PC via Steam on June 12th, 2025. Throughline Games also promises a console release, just at a later date. If you absolutely cannot wait to play Forgotlings, a demo is currently available on their Steam page, and if you’re interested in the title at all, throw it on your wishlist.
The Alters
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S | Release Date: June 13th
Jan Dolski is the lone survivor of a crash-landed spacecraft that landed on a hostile planet meant for an expedition with Jan’s crew. As the only survivor, it’s impossible for Jan to complete the expedition by himself… but. With a substance called Rapidium, Jan can create alternate versions of himself.
The Alters has players crafting and building a base, surviving this hostile planet, and creating Alters of Jan Dolski to help on his expedition. Of course, these Alters don’t come free. As Alters are created, they all have their own wants and needs, how they fit into a world of Jans is up for exploration. Not all Jans are alike, and if there’s one thing we hate about others, its what we see in ourselves.
The Alters releases on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 13th. While no demo is available, if interested, you should add the game to your wishlist on PC via the Steam page, PlayStation, and Xbox.
A Tithe in Blood
Platforms: PC | Release Date: June 16th
What could possibly be so alluring to a university student in Hokkaido, Japan, to entertain the ritualistic art of blood magic? At the very least, being able to travel back to Hokkaido from the Meiji era. If it were only that simple.
However, this romance visual novel is far from simply a fantastical journey into a bygone era. With themes around depression, blood magic, and love from grief, A Tithe in Blood is more than your standard Yuri fare. Join Asakawa Honoka in this voiced visual novel about forbidden arts and forbidden love.
A Tithe in Blood releases on PC via Steam on June 16th. If you simply cannot wait to play it, A Tithe in Blood has a demo available on their Steam page. Of course, if you want to show interest, please add the game to your wishlist.
Date Everything!
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch | Release Date: June 17th
Perhaps you’re looking for a visual novel that’s more on the lighthearted side, one that allows you to date objects around your house? Date Everything! allows you to do what you’ve always wanted to do, date former inanimate objects in your home.
Move over, step-mom and step-son, there are about 100 fully voiced inanimate objects in your home that might seem a little more alluring than family. Slap on your Dateviators and make lovers, friends, and even enemies.
Date Everything! releases on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on June 17th. A demo is currently available on the Steam page. If you’re interested, make sure to add it to your wishlist.
Mushroom Musume
Platforms: PC | Release Date: June 20th
You’re a recluse, and though this lifestyle has treated you well for many years, you’ve felt something missing in your life. An emptiness that you can’t seem to fill permeates your every being. You make the decision to have and raise a daughter. And only one person can help you with this struggle, the Witch of the Woods.
Mushroom Musume is a visual novel where choices matter. Play as a recluse in the woods as they make choices throughout their daughter’s life to shape and mold (sorry) their daughter into the mushroom person they’ll soon become. Then, when she’s ready, put yourself in her shoes as she moves out and begins a shroomin’ life on her own.
It’s a damn cool game. Mushroom Musume releases on PC via Steam on June 20th, 2025. There is currently a demo available on the Steam page and if you want to show support, make sure you wishlist it.
Quantum Witch
Platforms: PC | Release Date: June 24th
It’s just a story about a girl, standing in front of another girl, who is very insistent that the religion she’s trying to peddle isn’t a cult. Of course, if you simply looked at the literature, you’d know that. But instead, you’re there, picking flowers and punching boxes.
Quantum Witch is an adventure platformer about a culture that might be unfamiliar, religions that might feel unsafe, and all the content warnings of a great experience. Help Ren resist temptation, avoid cults, and live a lovely life in this beautifully hand-crafted pixel-art world.
Quantum Witch releases on PC via Steam on June 24th. A demo is currently available on the Steam Page and if you’re interested, make sure to add it to your wishlist.
Ruffy and the Riverside
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch | Release Date: June 26th
I’m not big into 3D platformers, but one of the main reasons for that is that they’re usually so slow. Ruffy goes fast though, man! Getting to zip around the areas of Riverside and search out stars is so much fun and is snappy, too.
Ruffy is a… bear, maybe? But he has the power of swap, sucking in textures and spitting them out to solve puzzles, which is surprisingly intuitive. All packaged in a beautifully hand-drawn open world, Ruffy and the Riverside might be one of the first platformers I finish. Definitely worth checking out even if you’re unsure about the genre.
Ruffy and the Riverside releases on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on June 26th. If you absolutely cannot wait to play the game, a demo is available on the Steam page, and of course, make sure you wishlist it if you’re interested.
Apologies if you were expecting a longer list. Truthfully, there are plenty of indies coming out this month, but the workload of this wrap-up has inflated quite a bit, so I’m scaling it back a bit. These are handpicked, but I always recommend taking a little time out of your week to go spelunking for indies. You never know what you’re going to find in the depths of Steam or other websites and forums.
This is a great list of indies I recommend checking out. Let us know if you ended up grabbing one and enjoyed it, I’d love to know whether or not the list is helping. As always, if there’s a game coming up you want to see covered, feel free to email us at will@monstervine.com or ping our BlueSky account. We’re always scoping out games to cover, so we appreciate the help. See you next month!
