Retro-Anime Murder Mystery Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter Drops Demo and Voice Cast Reveal

Developer Mango Factory is bringing the heat to Steam Next Fest with a fresh, fully voiced demo for Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter, their retro-styled murder-mystery card battler set in a twisted version of 1986 Japan. The new demo includes a story-rich prologue, deck-based battle modes, and even a throwback minigame to get your blood pumping ahead of the game’s Early Access launch later this year.

Alongside the new demo, the team revealed the full voice cast of the game’s eccentric ensemble, led by Mia Paige as protagonist Himari Sanada and Jordan Dash Cruz as the unsettling dual-personality cat, Nyanus. The cast also includes Elsie Lovelock (Hazbin Hotel, Murder Drones), who lends her vocal talents to the game’s stylish ‘80s city pop soundtrack.

Murder, Mayhem, and Minigames

Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter throws players into a nightmarish scenario inside a decaying nuclear bunker, where sixteen gifted “Absolute Students” must survive a sadistic government-run experiment. As Himari, the Absolute Barista, players must bond with fellow captives, gather evidence from grisly murder scenes, and engage in high-stakes “Card Battle Debates” to expose the killer—or risk becoming the next victim.

Key features in the Steam demo and upcoming Episode 1 include:

  • Fully voiced prologue introducing the game’s main mystery and cast
  • 1-on-1 card combat that blends argument-based attacks, evidence presentation, and tactical decisions
  • Trust system: Build relationships with other students to unlock powerful Talent Cards and strategic advantages
  • Classic-style minigames, like ‘Merlite,’ inspired by arcade classics
  • Stylized retro anime aesthetic evoking the VHS-era with intricate hand-drawn art
  • Full voice cast for all sixteen classmates, bringing extra personality to each Clinical Trial

Demo Available Now

The playable demo is now live as part of Steam Next Fest, letting players test the game’s mechanics and vibe before the full first episode launches in Steam Early Access later in 2025. Episode 1 promises a complete murder case, branching choices, and new ways to manipulate the truth.
