The Blood of Dawnwalker Shows Off Gritty Combat & Vampiric Abilities in Gameplay Showcase

To celebrate the longest day of the year, The Blood of Dawnwalker stepped out of the shadows with a gritty, atmospheric gameplay presentation that gave players their first real taste of Rebel Wolves’ debut RPG. The 15-minute showcase, captured from a pre-beta build on PC, dives into how protagonist Coen’s dual nature shapes combat, exploration, and story consequences in this dark fantasy epic. The game is set to launch in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Welcome to Vale Sangora: A Living World Shaped by Your Choices

Set in the sprawling land of Vale Sangora, The Blood of Dawnwalker embraces a systems-driven design where terrain, time of day, and player decisions all shape how the world reacts. From misty swamps to medieval cities like Svartrau, each biome comes with its own dangers. Cities change drastically between day and night—where bustling streets hide vampire oppression during daylight, and moonlit alleys reveal secret paths and uneasy alliances after dark.

Combat That Cuts Deep – Literally

The Blood of Dawnwalker uses directional combat, where blocking, parrying, and well-timed counterattacks are essential to survival. As Coen, players must manage two fighting styles: by day, swordplay and blood-infused runic magic; by night, supernatural claws, vampire reflexes, and teleportation via Shadowstep. Every ability brings risk and reward, especially when your bloodlust begins to take over.

Vampirism as a Mechanic, Not Just a Mood

At night, Coen’s hunger grows. Players can choose how to feed—from fallen enemies to unfortunate villagers—or rely on blood vials. However, failing to satisfy that need weakens Coen, making him vulnerable in battle and even causing him to lose control. In some cases, that could mean accidentally killing major characters or changing the story’s trajectory. It’s a mechanic that adds real tension to every encounter.

What’s Next?

Rebel Wolves promises more reveals leading up to launch. A new track, “Battle of Retribution,” by composer Nikola Kołodziejczyk, will also be featured in the upcoming 4K recording of the full event. The team is committed to transparency, sharing in-development footage to reflect the current state of production on Unreal Engine 5.
