A moving tribute to wartime sacrifice and family bonds, Letters of War is a newly revealed 2D narrative adventure inspired by Valiant Hearts: The Great War, officially heading to PC via Steam in Summer 2025. Developed by the small international team at Wood Cabin Games, the title offers a heartfelt, personal take on World War II, one rooted in real family memory.
The story follows Liam, a British carpenter who volunteers for the front lines of WWII, and his daughter Rosie, who stays behind in war-torn Britain. Players will switch between Liam’s harrowing experience across historic battlefields and Rosie’s emotional journey at home, where her father’s letters become a lifeline of love, comfort, and hope.
The game’s Steam page goes live July 3, alongside a debut teaser trailer that hints at the hand-drawn art style, emotional tone, and dual-perspective storytelling.
A Letter from the Past
From the beaches of Normandy to the ruins of Monte Cassino, Letters of War recreates key WWII moments through Liam’s eyes while Rosie endures air raids, rationing, and growing up in wartime London. Drawing narrative inspiration from actual letters and family accounts, the project was sparked by the memory of the lead developer’s grandmother, now 88, who lived through the war and served as the emotional foundation of the game’s concept.
“This is a story about preserving a memory,” the team explains. “Not just through history books, but through something emotional and lasting.”
More Than Just a War Story
While Letters of War shares thematic and stylistic DNA with Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts, it charts its own path with an emphasis on grounded storytelling and emotional connection. Gameplay focuses on exploration, letter-writing, environmental puzzles, and visual storytelling. The game will support English and Russian at launch, with more languages to follow.
Letters of War is the first title from Wood Cabin Games, a small team of developers from Kazakhstan and the UK who previously worked as freelancers. They’ve since come together under a shared mission: telling one intimate story amid one of history’s greatest tragedies.
