Clear River Games has announced that Terranigma is returning for modern platforms, with the classic action RPG expected to begin shipping in early 2027.
The new release is planned for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
A Long-Requested Return
Quintet originally developed Terranigma and released it in 1995, during the final stretch of the 16-bit era.
The action RPG built a reputation for its story, pixel art, music, and fast-paced combat, though many players in North America never had an official way to play it. This new version gives the long-requested release a modern reissue across console and PC.
Ark Restores the Earth
Terranigma follows Ark, a young boy tied to Earth’s resurrection.
The story tracks the planet’s growth from early life through to the present day, with themes of creation, destruction, gods, and humanity woven through its narrative.
Kamui Fujiwara Returns
Clear River Games confirmed that manga artist Kamui Fujiwara is supporting the project.
Fujiwara, who worked on the original game’s character designs, setting work, and other creative elements, will provide new key art, in-game designs, and production feedback for this release.
New Features for Modern Players
This new edition will keep the original’s action RPG foundation while adding upgrades, tweaks, and bonus features.
Clear River Games has not detailed every new feature yet, but the goal is to keep Terranigma’s identity intact while making it easier for modern players to get into.
Coming Early 2027
Terranigma is expected to arrive in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
Clear River Games revealed the project during the debut Pixel Arcadia retro showcase.
