One of the most intriguing reveals during Aksys Games’ Anime Expo 2025 showcase was Project Code M, a stylish and suspenseful mystery game that plunges players into the shadowy backstreets of modern Tokyo. Developed in collaboration with a currently unnamed studio, Project Code M sets itself apart by letting players take on both sides of a murder case — as the killer and the investigator.
Welcome to the Underworld
Set in Tokyo’s historic Shitamachi district, including locales like Asakusa and Yoshiwara, Project Code M leans into noir influences and psychological tension. As the murderer, players can plan out killings, choose their method based on the environment, and manipulate targets into falling into deadly traps. But once the crime is done, the game flips: you now become the investigator on the trail of your other self.
Dual Perspectives, Multiple Outcomes
While gameplay specifics are still under wraps, Project Code M teases a nonlinear narrative filled with branching paths, player-driven interrogation, and overlapping truths. Think Hitman meets AI: The Somnium Files, where both deception and deduction matter equally — and no one walks away clean.
More to Come
No platforms or release window have been confirmed yet, but Aksys promises more information will drop later this year. For now, mystery fans and visual novel players alike have good reason to keep their eyes on this one.
