Microids is turning up the heat this summer with a fresh gameplay trailer for Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening, the modern video game adaptation of Buichi Terasawa’s iconic space opera. Developed by Magic Pockets, this faithful take on the 1982 anime is set to launch on August 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
This marks the first time Cobra’s signature brand of pulpy sci-fi heroics will appear on current-gen platforms, and players don’t have to wait to get their hands dirty: a free playable demo is available now on all platforms.
What to Expect from Cobra’s Return
The game adapts the first 12 episodes of the classic Space Adventure Cobra anime, including the fan-favorite Captain Nelson’s Treasure arc. Players take on the role of the cigar-chomping space pirate Cobra, whose left arm hides the legendary Psychogun—a weapon as deadly as it is stylish.
You’ll blast, dash, and grapple your way across exotic planets, facing off against iconic villains like Crystal Bowie and the Royal Sisters, while enjoying dynamic 2.5D platforming action wrapped in a distinctly retro-futuristic aesthetic.
