Silver Lining Interactive and Steel Mantis have revealed the first gameplay trailer for Slain 2: The Beast Within, the brutal follow-up to the cult hit Slain: Back From Hell. Shown exclusively during The MIX Fall Showcase, the trailer highlights fast-paced, gore-drenched combat, gothic world design, and the return of the sentient sword Bathoryn, a weapon already carved into indie legend.
Launching on PC via Steam in 2026, Slain 2: The Beast Within expands the original’s formula of pixel-art carnage, layering in transformation mechanics, new elemental powers, and multiple narrative paths.
The Wolf Knight’s Curse
Players step into the role of Prince Akran, the last of the Wolf Knights. Cursed with the savage power of the Beast, Akran can transform into a monstrous werewolf under the light of the full moon. This duality defines the game’s combat: switch seamlessly between the precision of blade strikes and the feral brutality of claw attacks to overcome Lord Vroll’s spreading corruption.
Bathoryn’s elemental fury also returns, allowing players to imbue their attacks with fire, ice, or raw magical energy to adapt against a variety of monstrous foes.
A Gothic World in Ruin
Slain 2: The Beast Within offers three interwoven quests across distinct environments:
- The Eye: Storm-lashed fortresses and towering battlements.
- The Heart: Spectral coastlines haunted by restless spirits.
- The Dagger: Abyssal catacombs and cursed lands of darkness.
Each path is steeped in gothic decay, from corpse-strewn streets to fog-choked highlands. The journey culminates in battles against nightmare champions, abyssal warlocks, and creatures born from the darkest corners of myth.
All of this is presented through richly animated pixel art paired with a haunting, heavy metal-inspired soundtrack that channels the same raw energy that made the original a cult classic.
