The Pines promises a therapy retreat where making the wrong impression could leave someone hunting you through the woods. Silver Lining Interactive has announced a global publishing partnership with Studio Abattoir for the psychological horror RPG, which combines open-ended investigation, melee combat, and a choice-driven Stalker System.
You play as Edward Walker, a burnt-out former detective seeking peace after a case goes cold. On his therapist’s advice, he visits a secluded retreat offering quiet surroundings and professional help. Beneath that reassuring exterior, a conspiracy begins to take shape.
Your Choices Can Turn Residents Into Stalkers
The Pines’ residents bring their own histories, traumas, and motives to the retreat. Conversations and investigations can change those relationships in dangerous ways.
Say the wrong thing, cross someone, or probe too far into their secrets, and a seemingly harmless resident may become a stalker who pursues Edward through the forest.
Those encounters can change as Edward develops. Become strong enough, and you may be able to confront a pursuer rather than keep running.
Investigate the Retreat and Shape Edward’s Abilities
Edward’s detective experience helps him spot overlooked details, connect clues, and gather evidence. You’ll piece together residents’ accounts and decide who deserves your trust as you investigate the retreat.
The RPG systems let you develop his strength, intelligence, and persuasion to suit your approach. You can join groups and factions with their own stories, then talk, fight, or investigate your way through problems.
Your decisions affect Edward’s story and the fates of the people around him.
Scarce Ammunition Makes Melee Combat Matter
Guns and ammunition are limited, but Edward can use tools like bats and axes against threats in the woods. Combat involves dodging, parrying, and timing your attacks.
Studio Abattoir founder Kevin Jochems described the premise as “a self-help book came to life,” with choices that can carry unforeseen consequences.
