Playism and developer Kotake Create have announced that The Exit 8, the viral anomaly-spotting walking simulator, is headed to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 29, 2025. The release coincides with the launch of the live-action movie adaptation, and fans of the unsettling underground journey can expect new anomalies added exclusively for the occasion.
The Exit 8 originally captured players’ imaginations with its eerie depiction of liminal spaces and its simple yet deeply disorienting loop: find the anomaly, or be stuck forever. Since then, it’s sold over 1.9 million copies and helped spark a new wave of minimalist horror games.
A Loop You Don’t Want to Break
Set in an endlessly repeating underground passage inspired by Japanese train station corridors and the Backrooms mythos, The Exit 8 tasks players with doing one thing: spot what doesn’t belong. Turn around when you see something wrong. Don’t turn back if you don’t. That’s the loop—and the game’s genius lies in its quiet tension and slowly escalating dread.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version not only brings smoother performance and visuals, but adds brand-new anomalies—visual and environmental irregularities meant to throw players off their game. These additions will also roll out as free updates to the Steam, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS, and Android versions soon after.
