Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions Reveals First Gameplay, Launching in 2026

System Era Softworks and Devolver Digital are taking players back to the Astroneer universe in Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, a new co-op space adventure launching in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Unveiled during the first Starseeker Direct, the broadcast showcased extended gameplay and fresh details about the chaotic, cooperative missions awaiting players aboard the ESS Starseeker, a space station filled with tools, science gear, and a generous amount of interstellar mischief.

Chaos, Camaraderie, and Cosmic Comedy

Starseeker transforms Astroneer’s familiar exploration into fast-paced expedition gameplay, blending teamwork, timed objectives, and creative problem-solving. Recruits can set out solo or in squads of up to four, taking on missions that test both skill and improvisation.

Before deployment, players can craft, trade, and build their perfect loadout—or completely disregard logic and bring fireworks and beach balls instead. Once the dropship hits the surface, the timer starts ticking. Planets are hostile, and teamwork often teeters between brilliance and disaster.

Each expedition ends back aboard the Starseeker, where players regroup, celebrate survival, and share stories from the field. Between missions, life aboard the ESS Starseeker feels less like a sterile research station and more like a party bus bound for the stars.

First Stop: Planet Tephra

The inaugural expedition drops players onto Tephra, a lush world of tangled jungles, rolling oceans, and bioluminescent caverns. Tephra’s ecosystem brims with hostile flora, unpredictable fauna, and mysterious technology waiting to be uncovered.

Every planet in Starseeker is handcrafted, offering unique challenges, biomes, and mission zones that unlock as Squads progress. Returning to a favorite crash site, secret cave, or the place where a flower monster ate a crewmate is all part of the fun.

Nozzles, Goop, and Galactic Goofs

In the Starseeker Direct demo, a Squad was tasked with repairing vital equipment on Tephra. A simple mission quickly turned sideways when the planet’s wildlife coated everything in a strange Goop, forcing players to rely on their EXO Tools and specialized Nozzles to adapt.

Nozzles act as modular upgrades that modify how players interact with the world—like Water Hose Nozzles used to clean machinery or repel aggressive creatures. Missions can shift from organized teamwork to delightful chaos in an instant, reflecting the unpredictable, lighthearted tone that defines Astroneer’s universe.

Whether you’re a meticulous explorer, a prank-happy scientist, or just someone who wants to throw beach balls in zero gravity, Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions promises a vibrant mix of exploration, creativity, and comedy.

Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions launches in 2026, expanding the Astroneer universe with brand-new worlds, stories, and systems.
