Larian Studios Announces Divinity, a New RPG Set in Rivellon After Baldur’s Gate 3 Success

Larian Studios, the team behind the industry-defining Baldur’s Gate 3, returned to The Game Awards 2025 with a massive announcement: Divinity, a brand-new RPG set in the world of Rivellon. Despite carrying the franchise’s most iconic name for the first time, Divinity is the studio’s next big leap forward, promising more scale, depth, and emotional richness than anything Larian has ever attempted.

The reveal trailer (shown live during the show) teased a world on the brink: the gods have fallen silent, Rivellon is bleeding, and strange powers are rising. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for the setting Larian has spent decades building.

A Fresh Start That Honors the Past

Divinity is designed as a new entry point for players; no prior knowledge of Divinity: Original Sin is required. But longtime fans will still discover connective tissue, deeper context, and nods to the past that tie this new epic into the studio’s legacy.

Creative director Swen Vincke says the project represents the culmination of everything Larian has learned across its history:

“This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make. We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place—something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before.”

For a studio coming off the monumental success of BG3, those words carry weight.

The Ambition Behind Divinity

While Larian hasn’t shared gameplay specifics yet, the announcement makes one thing clear: Divinity aims to surpass Baldur’s Gate 3 in scope and complexity.

The teaser imagery hints at:

  • A world ravaged by divine silence
  • New, unstable sources of power
  • A darker, more fractured Rivellon than ever before
  • A story centered on intimacy, choice, and consequence

Expect signature Larian elements: deep player agency, tactical combat, rich narrative design, but pushed further than before.

The Next Step for Larian Studios

Divinity marks a symbolic moment for Larian. After BG3 cemented them as one of the most acclaimed RPG developers in the world, the studio is now reclaiming its original universe with newfound ambition.
