Ex Sanguis will launch in Steam Early Access on May 21, developer Lightbulb Crew announced. The turn-based tactical roguelite comes from the studio behind Othercide and puts players in command of elite warriors fighting to restore life to a dying world.
Set in a world consumed by stillness, Ex Sanguis follows the Stillae, warriors born from blood, as they battle the forces of Stasis through tactical combat and repeatable roguelite runs. A new trailer released alongside the announcement confirms the Early Access release date.
Turn-based tactics with timeline manipulation
In Ex Sanguis, players will take part in turn-based battles built around timeline control and environmental interaction. The game includes Timeline Effects, which let players speed up, delay, or swap positions in the turn order to gain an advantage over enemies.
Combat also includes spatial and environmental systems, allowing players to ignite enemies, explode objects, block paths, and use effects such as knock-backs, forced facing changes, flanking bonuses, and damage-over-time.
Roguelite progression and branching paths
Ex Sanguis combines tactical combat with a roguelite structure, featuring procedural missions, boss encounters, and progression that carries across runs. As players defeat enemies, they can earn Corrupted Blood, which can be used in map events for upgrades or to reach boss encounters earlier.
The map also allows players to choose their own route, taking on harder missions for greater rewards or gathering resources to improve their chances in later encounters.
Six months of planned Early Access support
Lightbulb Crew says it is currently planning to run Early Access for around six months, during which the team expects to expand the game with additional content, balance adjustments, new features, and overall polish. The studio also says it is exploring the possibility of adding new game modes during development.
