Jagex has announced that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will launch on PlayStation 5 later this year and will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers at launch.
The release marks the first time a RuneScape game has launched on console in the franchise’s 25-year history. Currently available in Steam Early Access, RuneScape: Dragonwilds has already sold more than one million copies.
A New Chapter for RuneScape
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is separate from the long-running RuneScape MMORPG, taking the series into open-world survival crafting.
Players explore Ashenfall, an undiscovered continent filled with quests, regions to explore, skills to level, dragons to fight, and creatures pulled from RuneScape lore. Enemies include Zogres, Black Knights, and the newly introduced Garou.
The game also features reorchestrated RuneScape music alongside new tracks made for Dragonwilds.
Survival Through Sorcery
Dragonwilds mixes crafting, survival, and magic-based progression.
Players can use sorcery to speed up gathering, escape danger, and manipulate the environment. Examples include summoning a spectral axe to cut down trees, blinking away from attacks, transforming bones into peaches, creating a tornado of fish, and breaking ore veins with magic.
Jagex says Ashenfall’s Anima-rich landscape plays a major role in how players survive and grow stronger.
Grind Skills and Slay Dragons
The core loop focuses on exploration, skill progression, crafting, and dragon hunting.
Players can follow the trail of destruction across Ashenfall to locate dragons, take them down, and eventually confront the Dragon Queen. The game supports both solo play and co-op with friends.
Jesse America, Executive Producer on RuneScape: Dragonwilds, said bringing the game to PlayStation 5 helps expand the franchise’s mix of crafting, survival, and RuneScape identity to more players.
Community-Driven Development
Like other RuneScape titles, Dragonwilds is being shaped with community feedback in mind.
Jagex says player input will help guide the future of the game as it continues development through Early Access and prepares for its console launch.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available now on Steam Early Access and can be wishlist’d on the PlayStation Store.
