The Lost Wild Launches in 2027, Bringing Dinosaur Survival Horror to PS5 and PC

Annapurna Interactive and developer Great Ape Games have announced that The Lost Wild will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Revealed during Sony’s State of Play showcase, the cinematic survival horror game places players on a mysterious island populated by intelligent dinosaurs, where survival depends on stealth, observation, and careful resource management rather than direct combat.

A Survival Horror Game Built Around Dinosaurs

In The Lost Wild, players take on the role of Saskia, who awakens on an isolated island overrun by prehistoric predators.

As she explores abandoned research facilities hidden throughout dense wilderness, Saskia must uncover the mystery behind the island while avoiding becoming prey herself. Dinosaurs freely roam the environment, hunting anything that enters their territory.

Rather than presenting dinosaurs as movie monsters, Great Ape Games says the creatures are designed as wild animals with believable behaviors and instincts.

“These are not monsters, these are wild animals that think of you as prey,” said Great Ape Games CEO Nick Gregory.

Learn Their Behavior or Become the Prey

Survival in The Lost Wild revolves around studying dinosaur movement patterns and adapting to their behavior.

Players will need to observe how different creatures patrol areas, react to sounds, and respond to threats. Choosing the safest route through facilities and wilderness can mean the difference between survival and death.

Some paths offer a direct route forward, while hidden trails and alternate approaches may provide safer options for those willing to explore.

Non-Lethal Tools and Cat-and-Mouse Gameplay

Unlike many survival horror games, The Lost Wild emphasizes evasion over combat.

Players can gather useful equipment and non-lethal tools to increase their chances of survival. Distractions, environmental hazards, and deterrents can be used to escape dangerous encounters, but dinosaurs remain a constant threat throughout the experience.

The deeper the players venture into the island, the more dangerous the predators become.

Great Ape Games describes the gameplay as a tense cat-and-mouse experience in which players must outmaneuver, distract, run, and hide when confronted with overwhelming odds.

A Love Letter to Dinosaur Horror

According to the development team, The Lost Wild began as a passion project built around a shared love of dinosaurs and survival horror.

What started as a small concept eventually grew into a studio of more than 25 developers working to create what the team describes as its dream dinosaur game.

The focus on intelligent predators, environmental storytelling, and slow-building tension aims to deliver a different take on the dinosaur genre than players may be used to.

The Lost Wild is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
