The Lost Wild has received a new developer diary featuring gameplay footage and a closer look at its dinosaurs, setting, and protagonist. Publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Great Ape Games shared the video ahead of the survival horror game’s planned 2027 release on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Presented by members of Great Ape’s Brighton-based team, the diary includes Game Director Gary Napper, whose previous work includes Alien: Isolation. The discussion focuses on creating believable predators and putting players in the vulnerable position of being hunted.
Evade Dinosaurs While Investigating an Island
The Lost Wild centers on evasion, distraction, and resourcefulness. Players explore overgrown research facilities surrounded by wilderness while trying to survive encounters with dinosaurs and piece together the island’s mystery.
The facilities provide a human presence within an environment now dominated by predators. Exploring those spaces means balancing the search for answers with the immediate problem of avoiding whatever is nearby. Great Ape describes the experience as cinematic survival horror, with its premise built around the fear of facing animals capable of hunting you.
The new footage gives players another look at that approach, showing the environments and creatures the team has been developing for the adventure.
Meet Saskia, an Ordinary Person Being Hunted
The diary also introduces more of protagonist Saskia. Great Ape describes her as an ordinary person thrust into extraordinary circumstances, where survival means facing threats far beyond her everyday experience.
That vulnerability informs the team’s work on the dinosaurs themselves. Great Ape says it has focused on how the animals look, move, and behave, aiming to make them feel like living predators. Their behavior is central to the tension: Saskia is entering their territory, and the player must find ways to stay alive while continuing her investigation.
The Lost Wild launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
