Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Delayed to Early 2027 in New Dev Update

PlaySide Studios has shared a new development update for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, giving players a closer look at the upcoming real-time strategy game’s factions, heroes, combat, maps, and revised launch timing.

The update confirms that Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is now planned for early 2027.

Lead the Great Houses

Players will be able to command House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King’s Army of the Dead.

Each faction will feature iconic heroes who can level up, gain new abilities, and support nearby armies. The update specifically highlights Jon Snow as a front-line rallying force and Tywin Lannister as a commander built around careful battlefield control.

Squad Combat and Unit Impact

PlaySide says War for Westeros will focus on squad-based command rather than individual soldiers.

The team is putting work into pathing, responsiveness, and physical impact so battles feel readable and heavy. Cavalry can break through exposed archers, while faction-specific “trump card” units can swing fights in major ways. One example given is a giant smashing the ground and sending enemy squads flying.

Counters will also matter. If cavalry charges your line, basic infantry will not solve the problem. You’ll need the right unit type, such as spearmen, to stop that momentum.

Battles Across Westeros

Skirmish maps will take players across major locations and battlefields inspired by Westeros, including King’s Landing, The Wall, and regions tied to the continent’s wars.

One map currently in development is Ashemark, a 1v1 battlefield in the Westerlands. It features two open lanes, defensible positions, and room for pressure, flanking, holding ground, and counterattacks.
