Square Enix has shared new Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World details ahead of its December 3 release, including the Quick Scouting recruitment system and Joint Battles against massive monsters.
The latest information also introduces Witherwood priestess Almira, three new monsters, and additional details on the game’s playable demo.
Quick Scouting Lets You Recruit Without Starting a Battle
Traditionally, recruiting a wild monster requires entering combat and using a Show of Force.
Quick Scouting provides another option. Players can target a monster while exploring and throw meat at it, prompting their party to perform a Show of Force without entering a regular battle.
Successful recruits immediately join the main party or reserves if space is available. Otherwise, they head to the monster depot.
Different cuts of meat can improve recruitment chances, while some monsters prefer specific varieties.
Players will eventually gain access to the Scout Run at the Witherwood paddock. Each visit provides a set number of Scouty Snacks to throw at monsters inside the enclosure.
Rare monsters unavailable through normal encounters can also appear there, with additional creatures added as the story progresses.
Bianca and Nera Team Up for Joint Battles
Joint Battles pit multiple parties against massive monsters that one group cannot handle alone.
During story battles, Bianca commands the main party while Nera handles the reserves when playing as Bianca. Their roles switch when Nera is the active protagonist.
Each party shares HP and MP gauges across all its monsters, and players can issue commands to the reserve party through the Tactics menu.
Massive enemies also have individual Pet Hates. Actions that irritate them fill a Rage Gauge, leading to stronger attacks once it reaches capacity.
Surviving that assault creates an opening. After the monster’s anger fades, it becomes exhausted and temporarily unable to move.
Joint Battles eventually become available through the battle arena, where defeating enemies within 10 rounds can earn rewards.
Online Joint Battles support up to four players.
Almira and the Mystery of the Archeagles
The new material also introduces Almira, voiced by Grace Saif.
Almira served as Witherwood’s guardian and a priestess devoted to its two Archeagles, Michelos and Lucifus.
She disappeared after the Evil Eye descended from the heavens and the Archeagles vanished.
Things worsened when Lucifus, once one of the kingdom’s protectors, suddenly attacked the people of Witherwood.
Almira’s disappearance and Lucifus’ behavior will form part of Bianca and Nera’s story.
Three New Monsters Join the Roster
Square Enix also introduced three additional monsters.
Hammerhood honcho belongs to the beast family and fights with a massive mallet, using its head as a weapon.
See slug is a nature-family monster identified by its single golden eye. Its Bottom Feeder Talent teaches water-elemental spells and abilities.
Panda pilgrim is another beast-family monster, wearing traditional clothing and carrying a walking stick that doubles as a weapon.
Demo Progress Carries Into the Full Game
A demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is available across all launch platforms.
It covers the beginning of Bianca and Nera’s time in Witherwood through the area’s initial events and includes systems such as Quick Scouting and Synthesis.
Players who retain their demo save can receive the Wrangler’s Bundle in the full game:
- Ring of Impulse x1
- Bonus Ball x1
- Smoked Sirloin x5
Rank G and F monsters from the demo’s main party and reserves can also transfer into the full release. Transferred monsters will appear at the depot after it becomes available, though they return to level 1 with their Talents and abilities reset to their default states.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches December 3, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Microsoft Store on Windows.
