4Dead Steam Demo Challenges You to Eat Every Four Seconds or Die

4Dead has released a Steam demo with one demanding rule: devour an enemy every four seconds or die. Publisher Kodansha Game Lab’s high-speed action roguelike puts you in control of No. 42, a powerful blue blob fighting an alien invasion of Earth.

The demo takes you through Stage 2’s mid-boss battle and arrives ahead of next week’s Steam Next Fest.

Keep Eating to Keep No. 42 Alive

Created by Professor Hakase, No. 42 produces so much energy that he needs a constant supply of enemies to sustain himself. That turns each encounter into a race to find your next meal before the four-second timer expires.

Eating enough enemies activates Just Eats mode, revealing more of No. 42’s power as you tear through the invading forces. High-energy music accompanies the action.

Buy Upgrades Between Bouts of Alien Consumption

As you progress through stages, you can purchase upgrades that improve No. 42’s stats and grant abilities to help manage enemies and the timer.

4Dead is the fourth demo in Kodansha Game Lab’s week of releases, following Buzz or Die, 1999Tokoyo Building, and Catharsis ~The Last of Atelier~.

You can play the 4Dead demo on Steam now.
