Catharsis ~The Last of Atelier~ has released a Steam demo ahead of Steam Next Fest. Published by Kodansha Game Lab, the art adventure takes you through environments inspired by famous paintings as a nameless being learning what it means to be human.
The full game is expected to launch in 2026, with 10 settings drawing from artists including Van Gogh, Klimt, and Monet.
Explore Paintings Through Memories and Emotions
Your protagonist begins without an understanding of humanity. Exploring these reimagined paintings connects you with the memories and emotions of people long since passed, gradually building that understanding.
The demo features two stages, inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Café Terrace at Night, as well as Ophelia.
Each stage takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, though the developer encourages you to slow down and spend time with the environments.
A Debut From Japanese Indie Developer Mana
Catharsis ~The Last of Atelier~ is Mana’s first game, and he taught himself Unreal Engine after moving abroad.
It is also the third demo in Kodansha Game Lab’s week of releases, following Buzz or Die and 1999Tokoyo Building. The publisher plans to announce its fourth and final demo tomorrow.
You can play the Catharsis demo on Steam now.
