Ayakashi Fishing Folktails is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in the Americas and Europe in mid-2027. Natsume is partnering with Imagineer and developer Toybox, led by Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada, to bring the supernatural fishing adventure west.
Known as ぼくと釣り日記 in Japan, the game combines freshwater fishing with a story rooted in Japanese folklore.
Catch Cursed Lords and Restore the Land’s Color
You play as a young man whose mysterious dream leads him to a group of supernatural companions called Ayakashi. Together, you’ll work to reverse a curse that has drained the land of color.
Breaking that curse means catching the Cursed Lords inhabiting its rivers and lakes, while also helping your Ayakashi companions with their problems.
Track More Than 100 Species Across Eight Locations
Ayakashi Fishing Folktails features more than 100 species, from real fish to supernatural creations like the Half-Tigerfish. Eight rivers, lakes, and ponds provide places to cast your line.
Finding your target means studying habitats, consulting the Fish Encyclopedia, and choosing the right tackle and bait. Weather and time of day also matter, with some catches requiring nighttime or rainy conditions.
Once a fish bites, move your rod in response to its energy. Equipment options include floats, lures, and a stream fishing rod that requires no reeling. Landing particularly large fish earns Gold Medals.
Ayakashi Fishing Folktails launches in the Americas and Europe on Switch and Switch 2 in mid-2027. Natsume plans to share more details in the coming months.
