Dead of Darkness 2 is trading the original’s perspective for fully isometric survival horror. Solo developer Retrofiction Games has announced the sequel for PC on Steam and GOG, and for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Retrofiction will self-publish the PC version, while eastasiasoft handles console ports and publishing. The reveal debuted during the Horror Game Awards Halloween Showcase.
A New Cast Faces the Horrors of Goldren Creek
The direct sequel follows Jun Takehara, who finds a wounded little girl in the Appalachians. Her search for help leads to Goldren Creek, a town hiding a disturbing mystery.
The story builds on the first game’s lore while introducing a new setting and a cast of 28 characters. Notes, objects, and rooms contain details that help you piece together what happened.
Visually, Dead of Darkness 2 adds more detailed pixel art and additional animation frames, alongside 90s anime-inspired sequences.
Switch Characters to Solve Puzzles and Manage Supplies
Certain sections let you switch between up to three characters. Their separate positions let you solve puzzles, avoid enemies, and conserve supplies, while a shared item box lets you exchange equipment.
Ammunition and healing items remain scarce. You can combine healing supplies into stronger medkits, upgrade weapons with parts, and manage inventory weight to preserve your mobility.
Weapons range from knives and axes to submachine guns and flamethrowers. Damage, status effects, equip load, and attack speed give each option advantages and drawbacks.
Exploration also involves examining files, items, and your surroundings for clues that lead to puzzle solutions and hidden routes.
