Death Stranding Isolations has received a new teaser and story details, with the animated series scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027. Kojima Productions shared the update during its 10th anniversary celebration at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo.
The series tells an original story separate from the games, using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. The announcement also confirms author Tow Ubukata as its series composition and screenplay writer.
A New Story After Sam Reconnects America
Death Stranding Isolations takes place in North America immediately after Sam connects the continent through the Chiral Network. That renewed connection brings unforeseen consequences, and the series follows people whose responses differ from Sam’s and those of his Bridges colleagues.
At its center is a girl who has grown accustomed to living alone following the Death Stranding. What began as forced isolation becomes a preference, leading her to reject opportunities for human connection. Chance encounters eventually pull her beyond that solitary existence.
The wider cast includes an old man who connects people through an unexplained method, a female soldier trapped in recurring conflict, and a boy angry at the circumstances of his life. The series follows a young man and woman on an adventure through this changed America.
Tow Ubukata Joins the Production Team
Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer, with Takayuki Sano directing. E&H production is handling animation, while Ilya Kuvshinov provides the original character designs.
Newly confirmed writer Tow Ubukata’s work spans novels, games, comics, and animation. His novels include Mardock Scramble, which won the Nihon SF Taisho Award, and Tenchi Meisatsu, a Booksellers’ Award winner.
Sano said he approached the production with a strong sense of responsibility, citing the effect Kojima’s work can have on its audience.
Kojima Productions Exhibition Opens October 31
The announcement accompanied the studio’s anniversary exhibition, Beyond the Strand: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor. Running October 31 through December 20, 2026, at Tokyo’s Azabudai Hills Gallery, it features previously unseen production materials, a limited anniversary LUDENS statue, and a 360-degree video installation.
Death Stranding Isolations is scheduled for 2027.
