Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is expanding its battle options with cross-platform online modes and a new offline roguelike challenge. Ahead of its December 3, 2026, release, Square Enix has detailed cooperative monster fights, competitive matches, and the 50-battle Wrangler’s Gauntlet.
All online modes support cross-platform play, letting you join other monster wranglers regardless of their gaming system.
Team Up Against Giant Monsters in Online Joint Battles
Online Joint Battles let you team up against massive monsters through daily quests and rotating special events. Regular quests offer three difficulty settings, and you can also attempt them alone.
Helping allied parties with healing and support skills increases a shared Team Bonus that boosts damage and healing effectiveness. Preset messages let you coordinate during encounters.
Rewards include monster eggs that hatch into creatures you can add to your party.
Ranked Matches, Private Rules, and Online Rewards
Ranked Matches pit you against similarly skilled players across seven main ranks, from Beginner to Legendary. Victories award Ranking Points, with your total determining your standing at the end of each season.
Private Matches let you customize rules, including the number of rounds and how often players can bring in reserves.
The Online Hub also houses the Wranglers Society, where you can challenge parties uploaded by other players. Winning earns a roulette-wheel spin for rewards such as items and mini medals.
An Online Shop rounds out the options, with stock changing by day of the week and additional items becoming available as you progress through the story.
Wrangler’s Gauntlet Tests You Across 50 Consecutive Battles
The offline Battle Arena at Witherwood Castle includes regular and joint battles, each with seven difficulty categories. You assign tactics to your monsters and adjust your strategy as encounters unfold.
Progressing farther through the story opens the Wrangler’s Gauntlet. This roguelike mode gives you a different selection of starting monsters each attempt and challenges you to win 50 consecutive battles.
Between fights, you can strengthen your team through synthesis using your monsters and those from the previous opposing party. Scruffy also reveals your next opponents, giving you a chance to prepare.
Victories award Wrangler Points to spend at the Gauntlet Goods shop. You can’t take monsters or items acquired in the mode into the main adventure.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches December 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
