Studio 909 and director Kazuhide Oka have revealed Quiet Express: Cabin 909, a mystery adventure game coming to PC via Steam in 2027.
The announcement debuted during the Best Indie Games Summer Showcase 2026, accompanied by the game’s first trailer. Oka is best known for his work on Moonless Moon, Girls Made Pudding, and Natsuno Kanata (Beyond the Summer).
A Train Journey Across a Mysterious Continent
Quiet Express: Cabin 909 takes place aboard the Quiet Express, a train that requires seven days to cross the continent.
Players awaken in the final passenger car with a simple objective: reach the locomotive at the front of the train. Along the way, they must investigate the mystery of Cabin 909, a room that supposedly does not exist.
As players move through the train, they’ll encounter passenger cars, dining cars, cargo cars, botanical gardens, and other unique locations while uncovering clues tied to the missing cabin.
Build the Train as You Explore
One of the game’s most unique mechanics revolves around choosing which train car appears next.
When moving forward, players are presented with three possible train cars and must select one to add to the route ahead. Exploration can uncover items that allow rerolls or even add a fourth option.
Rearranging train cars may reveal new pathways, hidden rooms, secret attics, locked doors, and puzzles that weren’t previously accessible.
The system creates a constantly shifting train layout, encouraging experimentation across multiple playthroughs.
Meet a Cast of Unusual Passengers
The world of Quiet Express: Cabin 909 is populated by diverse races, including beastmen, giants, and homunculi.
Although major conflicts between races have ended, many passengers still carry personal struggles and anxieties. By listening to their stories and helping them with their requests, players can influence their futures while also uncovering clues about Cabin 909.
These relationships play a major role in the larger mystery.
A Time Loop Mystery
The Quiet Express is destined to reach its final station on the seventh day. Unfortunately, just before arriving, disaster strikes.
The train is destroyed in a catastrophic accident, killing every passenger and crew member aboard.
When the player awakens, however, they find themselves back at the beginning of the journey as the train departs once again.
Each failed attempt resets the seven-day journey, creating a time loop that players must unravel. By learning more about the train, its passengers, and the events leading to the crash, players can gradually work toward preventing the tragedy.
Searching for a Cabin That Doesn’t Exist
At the center of everything is Cabin 909.
No passenger has heard of it. The conductor insists it does not exist. Yet the player is inexplicably searching for it.
Questions surrounding Cabin 909, the repeating time loop, and the player’s ability to influence the train’s layout form the core mystery of the game. According to Studio 909, every unanswered question eventually leads toward a single conclusion.
Quiet Express: Cabin 909 launches in 2027 for PC via Steam with support for English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
