Toydium has announced Rules of Residence, a political simulation game where players join an apartment board and rewrite their building’s rules.
The game will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 from September 17-21 at booth 05-C05.
Apartment Politics Get Ugly
Rules of Residence follows a family of three after they take on a 35-year mortgage for their dream home.
That dream quickly sours when they move into an apartment building ruled by an unreasonable chairman. As a new mother suddenly elected to the board, the player must work with residents, challenge the building’s power structure, and decide how far they’ll go to change things.
Turn-Based Management
The game takes inspiration from tabletop RPGs, using a weekly turn-based system built around resources such as residents, money, and morale.
Players must solve building problems while keeping their physical and mental health intact. Mismanagement can also push the apartment’s operations toward collapse.
Dice Rolls and Resident Abilities
Dice-rolling events add risk to each week.
Outcomes depend on resident abilities, motivation, and player decisions, turning apartment politics into a strategy game full of unstable alliances and bad options.
Control or Liberation
Rules of Residence asks players to choose between the chairman’s control and the residents’ liberation.
Relationships, apartment conditions, and story paths will shift based on repeated decisions, leading to multiple endings.
Demo at Tokyo Game Show
Rules of Residence will have a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Toydium says attendees can try the demo at booth 05-C05 and receive merch while supplies last.
