PaperKlay, the whimsical 3D platformer made entirely out of clay, cardboard, and paper, is set to launch on PC via Steam on May 27. Developed by solo creator Kevin Andersson (WhyKev), with a Nintendo Switch version planned for later, PaperKlay combines classic platforming action with a handcrafted aesthetic and an inventive tactile twist.
In PaperKlay, players control a lovable chicken named Chick and their trusty sidekick Nugget, as they leap, glide, dash, and double-jump through an open world made of real-world art supplies. Players can rotate and manipulate parts of the environment to open new paths, discover hidden collectibles, solve puzzles, and uncover secrets.
A Crafted World Full of Charm
What sets PaperKlay apart is its handcrafted presentation—imagine a world made from craft supplies brought to life, from layered cardboard terrain to plasticine platforms. Movement is fluid and fast-paced, offering a satisfying blend of exploration and traversal for fans of 3D platformers like Banjo-Kazooie and Yooka-Laylee.
And speaking of those games, PaperKlay features music from legendary composer Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee) alongside Steven Melin (Moonlighter, Dark Dice), and includes voice talent like Kevin Miller (Sly Cooper) and Kellen Goff (League of Legends, My Hero Academia).
