Get your hangars in order—Ground of Aces, the WWII strategy base-building game from Swiss-Polish indie developer Blindflug Studios, officially launches into Early Access for PC and Mac on July 10, 2025. The release date isn’t just symbolic—it falls on the 85th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain, marking a poignant entry point into this war-torn sim.
Combining elements of narrative-driven management games like Rimworld with the tactical nuance of Hearts of Iron IV, Ground of Aces puts players in charge of a WWII-era airbase. You’ll oversee construction, send pilots on missions, and manage the personal stories of your crew as the chaos of war unfolds.
According to Executive Producer Moritz Zumbühl, the team has spent months refining the game with the help of its community:
“Over the past few months, we’ve worked closely with our community, and we’re incredibly excited to launch Ground of Aces exactly on the 85th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain. July 10 is our D-Day – and we can’t wait to send players on their mission.”
While the game centers around managing the infrastructure of your base, it also dives into the lives of its personnel. Each crew member has a unique backstory, and their experiences shape the flow of the war effort. Whether you’re patching up runways, managing fuel supplies, or assigning missions to historic aircraft like Spitfires and Lancasters, every decision counts.
Blindflug is also leaning into stylized visuals, inspired by Franco-Belgian “ligne claire” comics like Biggles and Buck Danny, giving Ground of Aces a distinct visual identity in the genre.
The Early Access version launches with a wealth of base-building tools, mission systems, and narrative content, with more updates promised post-launch.
Ground of Aces lands on Steam for Windows PC and Mac on July 10, 2025.
