Shueisha Games, Japanese publisher of games like No Straight Roads 2 and Urban Myth Dissolution Center, has announced a new game developed by DeskWorks Inc. titled Chronoscript: The Endless End.
Chronoscript: The Endless End is a 2D exploration action-adventure game that takes place inside an unfinished manuscript. This is a pretty sick idea, and the artwork is just downright gorgeous. Let’s look at the setup presented:
In Chronoscript: The Endless End, players step into the role of an editor in AD 2026 who accepts a strange assignment at a remote mountain manor. After blacking out from a mosquito bite, he awakens inside a cursed manuscript of a thousand-year tale that refuses to end. To break the cycle and bring the tale to its final chapter, players must explore the inked world, uncover hidden truths, and confront the manuscript’s corrupted denizens.
A mosquito bite?! I’m sure for brevity’s sake we’re missing something, but that’s a pretty wild intro to the game world. Although there’s no one a cursed writer is more fearful of than the dreaded editor.
The game’s core action unfolds in a richly illustrated 2D world, while 3D elements are used for cinematic impact – appearing in cutscenes, dynamic map reveals and enemy attacks that strike from beyond the book. Brief moments even pull players into the “real” 3D world through inky rifts, but the journey always returns to the manuscript’s pages.
Chronoscript: The Endless End blends classic 2D action-adventure with fluid exploration, intense enemy encounters, and an unsettling hand-drawn style. The game launches in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Steam, localized in English, Japanese, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

Lead game artist at DeskWorks Inc. had this to say about Chronoscript: The Endless End:
“As a hand-drawn animator, developing a 2D action game has been both a dream and a goal of mine! We’ve focused on fluid, satisfying controls and fast-paced action, with nearly 100 unique enemies – each with distinct movements and quirks. I hope players enjoy the feel of the characters running through the manuscript pages. Also, I’m thrilled to collaborate with one of my personal favorite creators – their contribution is making the world of Chronoscript even more captivating. Stay tuned for more updates!”
Shueisha Games and DeskWorks Inc. are aiming for a 2026 release date for Chronoscript: The Endless End on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
