Montreal indie studio Paper Cult has released a brand-new demo for Tears of Metal on Steam, giving players their first chance to dive into the medieval hack-and-slash roguelike ahead of October’s Steam Next Fest. The demo features Act I of the game, where players begin with the starting character and battle through hordes of enemies to face off against the boss Gilles. Defeating him unlocks a special challenge shop that will push players’ skills, solo or in co-op with up to three friends.
While the demo is available now, Paper Cult also confirmed that Tears of Metal’s Early Access launch has been shifted to early 2026.
What is Tears of Metal?
Tears of Metal blends medieval hack-and-slash combat with roguelike progression, set against a backdrop of war and myth. Players must rally their Scottish battalion to reclaim their homeland after the cataclysmic Dragon Stone Meteor brings invaders and strange powers to the island.
