Tokyo-based developer and publisher room6 Inc. has released its in-house developed action roguelike, Reverie in The Moonlight, now available on Steam. Described by the studio as a “plushie hell” experience, this imaginative and unsettling title mixes bullet-hell chaos with heartfelt storytelling and cozy visuals. To celebrate its launch, room6 has also released an original soundtrack by composer MURASAKI, available as part of a discounted game-and-music bundle.
A Night of Monsters and Plush Protectors
Players step into the dreams of Tete, a small child haunted by terrifying nightmares. Each night brings new horrors, but he’s not alone with the help of Luna and an army of enchanted plush toys, Tete can fight back against the shadows.
While Tete himself can only run, his plushie companions take up the fight, each with unique abilities. With over 40 plushie types, players can experiment with team combinations from melee defenders like Ham Jr., to supportive healers such as Striped Angel, and even sleepy tanks like Snoozy-G, whose naps slow approaching monsters.
Strategize, Power Up, and Customize
After surviving each night, players can use earned gold to buy new plushies and items, creating endless combinations of buffs and trade-offs. With more than 100 upgradeable items and unique synergies between plush types, strategic experimentation is key to surviving deeper into Tete’s dream world.
Completing the main story unlocks Tete’s costume system, featuring over 20 alternate outfits. Each outfit affects gameplay, granting both advantages and limitations, such as the Moonlight Wizard outfit, which strengthens long-range plushies but prevents Tete from using others, or the Doggy Friend costume, which limits him to dog plushies with faster respawns.
A Dream You’ll Want to Return To
Reverie in The Moonlight blends action and strategy with handcrafted charm, balancing its haunting premise with soft visuals and a cozy tone. Its unique “plushie hell” aesthetic, equal parts cute and creepy, makes it a standout entry in the roguelike genre.
You can grab Reverie in The Moonlight and its official soundtrack as a discounted bundle now on Steam.
