Armatus Unleashes Supernatural Gunplay in First Xbox Showcase Reveal

Counterplay Games and Fictions officially lifted the curtain on Armatus, a new third-person adventure shooter roguelite, during today’s Xbox Showcase. Mixing frantic gunplay with striking supernatural abilities, Armatus puts players in the role of a resurrected celestial warrior fighting to reclaim a world drowned in demonic rule.

Launching in 2026, the game will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Armatus will also release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

A Supernatural Warrior Against Demonic Hordes

The debut trailer delivers a high-intensity first look at the game’s fast-paced combat, showcasing the mystical protagonist battling through the ravaged, demon-infested ruins of Dark Paris. Armed with an arsenal of modern firearms and otherworldly abilities, the warrior is thrust into the fight out of pure desperation and is ready to rise again and again.

As a roguelite, Armatus encourages experimentation each run, letting players mix and match weapons, powers, and melee tools to survive increasingly nightmarish battlegrounds.

Celestial Powers Meet Modern Firearms

Studio Head Ming Zhang describes the game as a fusion of supernatural spectacle and grounded gunplay.

“With Armatus, we wanted our gameplay to be a blend of modern firearms and supernatural powers, plus a little melee for good measure,” Zhang said. “By layering in dynamic build choices for each run, we’ve created the frenetic, hyperkinetic combat that really defines our gameplay.”

Producer Kelsey Hansen of Fictions echoed the excitement, noting the partnership’s creative energy:

“This is a game full of intense, fast-paced combat that truly feels incredible in your hands. We can’t wait for everyone to experience it in 2026.”
