Bandai Namco has announced that Patapon 1+2 Replay has just gotten a free update that brings some nifty new content to the remastered collection.
The free update, which is now available to download on all platforms, brings with it the new Boss Rush Challenge Mode. A press release notes that this update is specifically for players who have finished the main game itself, as it contains highly difficult procedural challenges that are composed entirely of boss battles.
Each stage features a number of bosses that matches the number of the stage itself, with the bosses becoming progressively stronger as players get further and further along through the stages. You can find further details on the game’s official website.

What is Patapon 1+2 Replay?
Patapon 1+2 Replay is a remastered bundle of 2007’s Patapon and 2008’s Patapon 2 — both popular rhythm games that originally debuted on the PlayStation Portable. The collection comes with new difficulty levels, the ability to adjust input timing, and constant command display.
“A delicate and mysterious species of creatures like an eyeball, the ‘Patapon’ are guided through their adventures by the rhythm of four drums,” reads the collection’s description. “There are various classes of ‘Patapon,’ each with distinct roles and combat styles such as the flag-waving ‘Hatapon’ who leads the charge, the shield-bearing ‘Tatepon’ who protects allies, and the bow-wielding ‘Yumipon’ who strikes from afar. Use their traits to form your squad and conquer multiple stages! As the player, you become the God of the ‘Patapon,’ leading their grand march towards the ‘Earthend.'”
