Lords of the Fallen II Reveals Brutal New Combat in Extended Dev Video

CI Games has released the most in-depth look yet at Lords of the Fallen II, debuting a brand-new episode of its ongoing developer series Lifting the Veil. Following the sequel’s official gameplay reveal at The Game Awards, this latest video dives deep into how the team is evolving its signature soulslike combat for 2026.

Featuring commentary from game director James Lowe, lead system designer Daniel Regan, producer Alex Harkin, and creative strategist Ryan Hill, the episode showcases never-before-seen alpha gameplay while breaking down the philosophy behind the sequel’s faster, bloodier approach to battle.

Faster, Deadlier, and More Tactical Combat

Lords of the Fallen II is aiming to significantly ramp up the intensity compared to its predecessor. According to the development team, combat now emphasizes greater speed and maneuverability, pushing players to react quickly as they manage larger areas of control.

Lampbearers can charge headlong into chaotic encounters, with battles described as a “personal tango with death.” Movement is quicker, engagements are denser, and positioning is more crucial than ever.

Players will also have more options mid-fight. The sequel introduces seamless swapping between melee, ranged, and spellcasting, encouraging hybrid builds and more dynamic combat strategies. Heavy attacks are no longer just about dealing extra damage — they now demand careful timing and tactical decision-making, with overextension carrying real consequences.

New Enemies, Dismemberment, and Graphic Executions

The video also highlights a variety of new enemies, weapons, and spells pulled directly from the game’s current alpha build. One of the most notable additions is a brand-new dismemberment system that lets players literally tear enemies apart in the heat of battle.

Complementing this is a suite of all-new graphic executions designed to amplify the franchise’s brutal identity. Combined with expanded enemy variety and massive boss encounters, CI Games is clearly leaning into a darker, more aggressive tone.

The sequel promises truly jaw-dropping boss fights and a robust shared progression co-op mode, letting players tackle the horrors of Umbral either solo or alongside allies.

A War-Torn Realm and the Rise of the Lampbearer

Set 1,000 years after the fall of the dark god Adyr, Lords of the Fallen II returns to a human realm under siege by the dead world of Umbral and its eldritch forces. As a Lampbearer, players stand as one of the last defenders against malevolent gods, visceral magic, and nightmarish creatures.

Lords of the Fallen II is currently in active development and is slated for a 2026 global release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
