Indie developer Studio BBB has revealed that its heartfelt puzzle-adventure platformer Monowave will launch in 2026 on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and additional consoles. The announcement came alongside a new full-length trailer and the release of a playable Chapter 1 demo.
A Journey Through Emotion
Monowave follows Mono, a newborn Guardian spirit tasked with restoring balance to a fractured world. The four core Emotions, Anger, Anxiety, Happiness, and Sorrow, have been separated, and their unchecked influence has twisted entire realms. Mono must journey across these emotionally charged worlds, soothing rampaging forces and reconnecting what has been torn apart.
Each Emotion grants a unique ability that shapes exploration and puzzle-solving. Happiness allows Mono to leap to new heights, Sorrow lets them melt through narrow gaps, Anger enables agile wall-jumping, and Anxiety focuses on evasive movement to slip past danger. Rather than serving purely as traversal tools, these powers also influence how Mono interacts with the world’s eccentric inhabitants, reinforcing the game’s focus on empathy and understanding.
The newly released trailer highlights the game’s distinct scratch-art-inspired visual style and whimsical atmosphere, pairing cozy platforming with a narrative that explores the complexity of emotional balance.
Playable Demo: “The Panic Jungle”
Studio BBB has launched a newly polished demo on Steam. Players can experience roughly one hour of gameplay in Chapter 1, set in World 1: “The Panic Jungle.” This realm, consumed by anxiety, introduces the core emotion-based mechanics while gradually building toward the game’s first boss encounter.
The demo is designed to showcase how environmental design, platforming challenges, and character interactions are shaped by emotional themes. Fog-drenched pathways, shifting hazards, and reactive NPC behavior reinforce the idea that each world is a manifestation of a single, unchecked feeling.
A Cozy but Meaningful Platformer
Across four distinct worlds, players will traverse environments warped by their dominant Emotion from foggy jungles to blazing caverns. The experience blends puzzle-driven progression with thoughtful platforming, emphasizing observation and emotional awareness over reflex-heavy action.
Studio BBB describes Monowave as both cozy and meaningful, pairing its whimsical aesthetic and original soundtrack with a narrative centered on empathy. The game’s relaunch of its official Discord community signals an active push toward player engagement as development continues toward its 2026 release.
