On my online rambles today, I saw earthbounding had new information…
What we learn:
–Preorders for New Zelda Wii are already underway on the heels of Iwata saying the game will come this year
–Nintendo is staying mum on the exact day, but Reggie has told Joystiq that the game will not be released until it is “perfect”.
–However, Aonuma is the one that told Reggie to give this answer–so did Nintendo jump the gun?
–It is possible that New Zelda Wii could release this year, but the odds are slim when you account for delays (Every AAA title has had them in some form or another, Twilight Princess included).
–A more realistic date appears to be Q1 2011–we would have to get lucky for it to appear this year
–Reggie has confirmed the Wii will still be here–Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid guarantee big sales (New Zelda Wii wasn’t mentioned)
–The rumor of Netflix being supported on New Console has been debunked, as has the rumor of New Handheld having motion controls (bummer) The possibility for those two things is still there, however.
–On the handheld front, given Spirit Tracks’ sales, Nintendo is feeling a little hesitant about future handheld titles. Aonuma has said he is solely focused on New Zelda Wii–so is Toon Link finished?
–Nintendo Power will be revealing a first glimpse of New Zelda Wii next month.
–That still hasn’t stopped the rumors–one claims that Iwata said that a major release will be pushed back. New Zelda Wii would likely be the one because Mario and Samus are guaranteed to arrive this year.
–Another rumor claims 2chan has found info on New Zelda Wii, and given their track record of correctly predicting game plotlines months before release, people paid attention
–Supposedly, the game will have a different flow, you will be asked to choose which hand Link will be, the mechanics and gameplay are done, Team Zelda is in the process of finishing the characters and story, two of the characters are an innkeeper and his son (who really admires Link), the girl is not the Master Sword (her name is either Adelle, Adella, or Aderu), she will play a “Navi” or “Minda”-esque role, the Master Sword will not make an appearance, the picture discussed before was concept art, Link’s sword will have unlockable abilities, the girl communicates via the sword, Epona will be back, horseback combat returns, Zelda nor Ganondorf will appear, Gorons will be back, New Zelda Wii would fall in the Child Link half of my timeline, there may be way to travel through time, the game may take place in multiple locations (that may or may not be Hyrule), and it could be a sequel to Majora’s Mask.
–The leak supposedly occured last November, it gained steam once Aonuma said the game would have a different flow.
–Bear in mind that this is still rumor for now, and there is a chance it could be true.
–On one hand, this could explain the plot hole in Majora’s Mask.
–Rumors have also surfaced on an Italian site claiming that the development started in February 2006, the development team is Nintendo’s biggest dev team ever, it will have many never before seen ideas, Wii Motion Plus will play a huge role, the dark mood and mature Link will be back, the Master Sword does indeed play a big role in the story, it will use the Wii’s full power, Link will get a makeover, the plot will be the most complex plot ever seen in a Zelda game, and could be the last game in the series. However, all of these have been confirmed as false.
–So, what about the 2chan rumors? They are unknown at this time, but they could be true if a. the poster is a part of Team Zelda or b. the poster was able to leak the info somehow. It is also possible that they are fake and the original poster was pulling a stunt.
So is any of the 2chan stuff true? Only time will tell, and stay tuned to MonsterVine for more info as I find it.
