Do the Dew: Game Fuel is Back

One 20 oz bottle of HALO 4 GAME FUEL was provided to us.

Not since the release of Halo 3 in 2007 have we seen the truest form of soda-gaming marketing. Starting today the ORIGINAL Halo Game Fuel is back on shelves.

Game Fuel was first released over 5 years ago when Mountain Dew embraced their video game and since then it has appeared with a few other games stacked under the name.

In 2009, there was a World of Warcraft partnership. With this, two new flavors of the Game Fuel were released: “Horde Red” and “Alliance Blue”. While they carried the Game Fuel name, the flavors were different and neither of them had the same citrus cherry flavor that the Halo soda had.

FINALLY in 2011, the flavor returned with the Modern Warfare 3 branding, and it was the first game fuel that gave players an opportunity to earn double experience in multiplier options. However, something just didn’t feel right about having the first true re-release of Game Fuel be covered in Call of Duty. While it tasted the same, it tasted with a slight betrayal aftertaste.

Here we are one year later and Game Fuel has gone back to its roots, branded with Halo 4. In addition to game fuel, all other flavors will carry the Halo name, as well as the opportunity for double XP. Halo branded bags of Doritos also give players a chance to earn more points, but there isn’t a specialty, limited run Halo flavor to get excited about.

Mountain Dew has a history of flavors since its creation in 1948, Wikipedia lists over 35 different styles including the diet and caffeine free variants. Of those, 18 are listed as discontinued. I welcome the return of the Game Fuel to store shelves, and hope that this type of Mountain Dew flavor revival is continued. PepsiCo, when can we see Pitch Black back on store shelves? Or what about the energy soda Mountain Dew MDX? While I’m at it, BRING BACK SURGE Coca-Cola Company!
